First Big Day Away

I put Charlie to bed tonight at 7:30, and it's likely I won't see him awake again until about that same time Friday morning. Over 24 hours without seeing my baby smile or snuggling him close, yuck!! It's entirely possible that I may decide to be selfish and wake him up in the morning so I can have at least a few minutes, but we'll see what happens with that. He really doesn't like being woken up, and I don't want his first long day without me to be bad.

Since one of my classes is hybrid and won't meet on campus every week, my schedule isn't as daunting as I initially thought it was going to be. Still, even having days like this once a month is going to be hard for me, and I'm also worried about how I'm going to continue to be the kind of student I have been now that my priorities have completely shifted.

I do have to remind myself that it could be much worse. He will be safe, happy and well-loved while I'm gone, which is a tremendous blessing. AND...he's here, which is so much better than waiting was! I haven't forgotten how hard that was, but I also didn't quite anticipate how hard this balancing act was going to be.

This semester is going to be a big adjustment for me and I hope it goes well...wish me luck!

Good luck. It will definitely be harder on mom than baby. I had weeks when my oldest was an infant where I only saw him on the weekends and it was horrible. I ended up changing jobs becuase of it but I am the only one that remembers how bad it was. Hang in there.

When we brought our son home, I was finishing up a semester in grad school and had a huge comprehensive final to study for. I also didn't get to take much maternity leave because I work for a small company and couldn't afford for it to be unpaid. I'm not comparing our situations, just letting you know that no matter what, you will find a way to balance everything. It will be hard, but you can handle it and everyone will come out better for it! Good luck!!

School was tough for me too after getting Sylas. It's harder to focus your time on studying when someone so cute is there to snuggle. And I hated the time away also. It is such a balancing act. And I've never been good at the tight rope! :-) Here's to hoping your first day away went well!

I hope that day went well. I'm sure it was so tough! But you'll get back in the groove and I have no doubt that you'll do well with the balancing act. Easy for me to say...best of luck in the new semester!

Hey Melba!

Thanks for the comment on my post. As soon as I'm done reading "Inside Transracial Adoption" I'll post a review. I'll look for the book you suggested, as well!

I hope your 24 hours went quickly but well. Charlie is so blessed to have such loving and dedicated parents!!

Also...hope the big party went well!

Hugs,
Rachel

Hi Melba-

Thanks for thinking of Sylas man and I. He did scare the heck out of me! In answer to your question his fever was only 101.9 when the seizure started. At the hospital when he stopped seizing it was 102.2. I have always been told 104 is the worry point also. But the pediatrician at the hospital told me that in children under 5 any temp over 101 can cause a seizure. Freaky isn't it!

I hope your first day away from Charlie-Bear went ok... I know you missed him. I'll bet the snuggles when you were reunited must have been wonderful!
If anyone can balance it all, you can, Melba :)

We're in big time adjustment mode in our house too! It is working though....as hard as it is. The absolute best part of the day is coming home to my sweet boy. I feel like a giddy school girl!! :)

Hope the first day back went well. I know how tough it can be although not that long that early.
Prayers are with you as you both continue to learn to adjust. I'm guessing when you see him again and his smile is huge for his mommy all your worries will melt away, at least until the next day away comes.
